Duarte Carvalho is a sustainability scientist with a background in biology and business innovation, dedicated to creating regenerative solutions that serve both people and nature. At Groundd, he works across Sub-Saharan Africa to support the development of sustainable value chains and conservation-based economies.
His path combines scientific understanding of ecosystems with strategic thinking around impact, finance, and land restoration. From managing large-scale reforestation initiatives to supporting biodiversity-focused investment funds, Duarte brings hands-on experience in nature-based solutions, ecosystem services, and community-centered project design.
As a strong believer in interdisciplinary approaches, Duarte draws on a diverse set of skills: from fieldwork and stakeholder engagement to strategic planning and environmental finance. Outside of work, he’s passionate about travel, wildlife, and outdoor sports, driven by a lifelong curiosity for the natural world and the systems that shape it.
